WHY
HAITI?
The Spirit of God came upon me. He sent me . . . .” (Lk 4.18-19)
It was this Gospel text that came to mind and heart when the plane landed in the airport in Haiti, August 11, 2011. And it is this text that accompanies me, like a refrain, in each new step as it arises.

“Not everyone is allowed to paint or to write an Icon. This act is a pastoral act. It is a mission and a ministry to interpret God’s mysteries, the life of the church and ultimately creation. Our Iconostasis has become the jewel in Galilee.”
Elias Chacour, Melkite Archbishop of Galilee, spoke these words about the icons of the Church of the Sermon on the Mount in Ibillin. He was speaking of the work done by our Sr. Bernadette Crook (NEP) who undertook this immense project that took eight years, in this large village of 11,000 people (Palestinians, Muslims, and Christians) 45 minutes from Nazareth.

I have experienced the presence of the Living God in my journey of 50 years of Consecrated Religious Life, “By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light...” Exodus 13: 21-22.

The International Formation Commissio:
Maria Emilia Peliz, (POR) chair; Natividade Invilua (MOZ), Ellen Marie Keane (EAP), Catherine Patten, (General Council), Rosa da Lima Pereira (BR), and Catherine Gough (Novitiate) welcomed new members Florence Muuka (ZAM) and Joan Treacy (WAP) at their meeting in Lusaka, Zambia, July 24-30. We met at St. Patrick Center, the former novitiate of the Kiltegan priests. We began with personal sharing about our own experiences of formation and growth in religious life. All agreed that this was time well-spent!
