Feast of the Sacred Heart of Mary

Rosaleen Sheridan (EAP), M. do Rosário Durães, M. de Lourdes Mechow,
Teresa Martin (EAP)

On June 12th, the generalate community welcomed the other Roman communities to celebrate our feast and honor our Roman jubilarians: Teresa Martin (70 years), Rosaleen Sheridan (60 years), Maria do Rosário Durães and M. de Lourdes Mechow (50 years). Reverend Gregory Aparcel, a Paulist Father and Rector of the Church of Santa Susanna in Rome, presided at our festive liturgy of joy and gratitude. In his thoughtful homily, he focused on the 5 “C’s” reflected in the 230 years of service of our jubilarians: their call, commitment, care, compassion and creativity in following Jesus Christ so that all might have life. Our Eucharist also expressed the diversity of our cultures as an international congregation – our voices were raised in prayer and song in Portuguese, English, French and Italian and African words and harmonies. During the intercessory prayer, Letizia Pappalardo was especially remembered as she celebrated her golden jubilee with us in the company of our founder and sisters who have gone before us.

Following the Eucharistic meal, we all enjoyed an elegant banquet prepared lovingly by Helena dos Anjos Guilhoto.

50 Years of God's Goodness
and Faithfulness

On May 3, 2010, the Feast of Sts. Philip and James, the actual day of her 50 years as a professed member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Maria do Rosário Durães, celebrated her golden jubilee with members of the generalate community and with her sister, Maria Augusta “Mitucha” Rocha. Reverend João Vila-Chã, a Jesuit philosophy professor from the Gregorian Pontifical University, presided at the celebratory liturgy. As a community, we thanked God together for Maria do Rosário’s gracious presence as an RSHM and her dedicated commitment in service to the Institute on general level. Our song for Maria do Rosário echoed the beautiful lyrics of “O Sim da Minha Oferta” by Maria do Céu Quinteiro: “The life that you have given me is a song of praise. My song of joy reveals your love.”

We rejoice with Maria do Rosário in this joyful moment of thanksgiving for our God who is so good!

Generalate Building News!

We would like you to know that during the month of June work was began on redoing the upper terraces in the Generalate. This project requires a great deal of time and effort since this is the season of intense Roman heat.

We have two wonderful workers, Serafino and Diego Dominici, two brothers who have known us for a long time. Each one of us can affirm unequivocally their efficiency and competence and concern for perfection.

Serafino, Diego Dominici

In addition, Diego is an amazing farmer, who enjoys cultivating the land. We are frequently the recipients of his fresh and savory harvest of fruits and vegetables.

May God bless all the work of their hands!
